The rearranged match, which will be City's second home game of the season, will kick-off at 1.30pm and be shown live on Sky.
Sky are obviously keen to keep a close eye on the start of the new City regime as the Blues' next home game, against Aston Villa, has also been switched for live TV coverage. City now host Villa on Sunday, Sept 16 (4pm ko).
With the City of Manchester Stadium hosting the UEFA Cup final 3 days after the end of the season, the home clash against Newcastle has been brought forward to Sat, Sept 29 (12.45pm ko), and will also be shown live on Sky.
Setanta all also showing live Premiership games this season and have already agreed to show two City games - Fulham away on Sat, Sept 22 (5.15) and Sunderland at home on Mon, Nov 5 (8).
Finally, the only other City game to be covered live before the end of November is the trip to Portsmouth on Sun, 11 Nov (4), when City are back on Sky.
