Sky Sports News have reported that the Frenchman, who was recently replaced as captain by Richard Dunne, has travelled to Teesside for talks with Middlesbrough.
City deny Distin talks
Portsmouth are also interested in the 29-year-old, but a City spokesman has not only insisted City have not had any enquiries, he also made it clear City expect Distin to travel with the squad to China later today.
“Sylvain has not been given permission to speak to any club and he will be travelling with us to China,” said the spokesman.
Distin has been named by Stuart Pearce in his 22-man squad, which features all senior players except for Andy Cole (knee) and Nedum Onuoha (calf), who will stay in the UK to recover from minor injuries.
City play hosts Shanghai Shenhua on Friday and Kashima Antlers on Sunday, and the games will be broadcast live on Irish-based sports channel Setanta.
