The speedy frontman has been a revelation on loan at Norwich and they will be front of the queue for Huckerby's signature in the January transfer window. But the Canaries are said to be struggling to stump up a fee.
Wigan boss Paul Jewell has therefore thrown his hat into the ring as the Latics compete with Norwich to break into the Premiership.
"We are interested in the player, as we are any good players of his type," said Jewell. "But there are a lot of other clubs interested too.
"Norwich are in the box seat because he's there at the moment and that's fair enough, but I had a chat with Kevin Keegan at our Youth Cup game against City and they know what our situation is.
"He's an exciting player and someone we rate, but as I said there's a few clubs interested in him so we'll have to wait and see how things pan out."
