"I don't know whether I had to prove a point or not, because I have played more than 200 games since I have been here," he said.
"But I was determined to do well against Manchester United and make sure I stay in the squad from now on.
"I had been very down. You think after three or four games maybe the situation will change but when it gets to 10 games and you still haven't been involved, it becomes worrying.
"Hopefully now I will be able to play for a while.
"It is different when you are in the 16 and you are on the bench but just sitting in the stand is very hard to take. I am 30 in February and need to be playing.
"Last week I was thinking that maybe I would have to go to another club but in football things change so quickly and it was fantastic to be a part of such a great victory."
