However, the former Inter Milan, AC Milan and Derby County player has not convinced City boss Kevin Keegan that he has the fitness levels that would make him a worthwhile signing.
Keegan said: "The big problem with Taribo, and I have talked to his agent about this, is his fitness.
"Taribo has not played for three months so it is very difficult for me to asses him. So I don't think that is going to happen. He is a great player and lovely to have around the place."
"He has got great leadership qualities but the other thing is that I have not got any players out. That was always going to be the key thing, I had a half chance to get a player out but it didn't happen."
"It won't happen but Taribo is welcome to train here for the next three days and he is great to have around the place but he needs to find a new club."
