Not the words that most City fans want to hear, but following Everton’s refusal to allow Joleon Lescott’s transfer to go ahead, Mark Hughes should end his pursuit of the player and now focus on other targets.
David Moyes and the Everton board have said all summer that Lescott is not for sale. Despite this statement, Hughes has tested Everton’s resolve with two bids of £15m and £18m, both rejected by the Toffee’s. It is very clear that Everton will not sell the defender and Hughes now needs to stop wasting valuable transfer window time on this pursuit and aim for other targets instead.
Football clubs have every right to pursue good players and City are no different but there comes a time when City need to respect Everton’s wishes in this matter and end their Lescott quest. Yes, Chelsea did exactly the same thing to us with SWP’s transfer, does that mean we have to do the same to Everton? No it doesn’t and City need to move on from this quickly if they are to secure a new signing before the end of the month.
