TEAM NEWS FOR LEEDS

Last updated : 22 December 2003 By Ben Collins
Just 6 weeks ago City were vying for fourth place and a passage into the Champions League while Leeds languished at the bottom of the pile.

But just 1 point from 15 for the Blues and a 3 game unbeaten run for Leeds, has brought the Yorkshire side within touching distance of City. If Leeds win tonight, they will be just one place behind 14th placed City.

In addition, Robbie Fowler will be facing his old club for the first time since his protracted £6 million move in January. The spotlight is on the former Liverpool striker more than ever as he continues to miss the target for the Blues.

Keegan can choose any forward combination from Nicolas Anelka, Paulo Wanchope, Jon Macken, and Fowler, as City attempt to end a miserable scoring run.

Claudio Reyna and Eyal Berkovic must be pushing for a starting spot after the only midfielders to have performed anything like their best recently have been Joey Barton and Shaun Wright-Philips.

The defence should remain the same except at left-back. Michael Tarnat is set to return after recovering from a thigh injury.

Kevin Keegan, thankfully, is well aware of the importance of tonight's game. He said: “This has become a very big game for us and we need to turn ourselves around sooner rather than later.

“We are playing at home, but Leeds have the confidence that we don’t have at the moment, though they are still way below us in the table.”

City squad (from): Seaman, Jihai, Dunne, Sommeil, Distin, Tarnat, Wright-Phillips, McManaman, Barton, Reyna, Berkovic, Sibierski, Sinclair, Fowler, Anelka, Wanchope, Macken, Ellegaard.
