The City winger has been called up by Sven Goran Eriksson, along with David James, but Kevin Keegan has admitted that a back injury could rule his impressive youngster out.
"He's going to report to the squad but he has a problem with his back," said Keegan.
"There is a very big chance he'll come back to us and he is probably doubtful at this stage, that's what he's just told me anyway."
The injury, suffered in Saturday's 4-0 win over Charlton, comes at a terrible time for Shaun, with many tipping him to play a big part for England during the trips to Austria and Poland after scoring a wonderful goal on his debut against Ukraine.
And Keegan outlined exactly why Shaun has thrust himself into the international set-up.
He added: "He's a wonderful player. In many respects, he's one of the few players in The Premiership who can light a game up.
"It can sometimes be just a tackle but he's a wonderful player. The fans here appreciate him and he appreciates them."
