Although Newcastle's Laurent Robert got the better of him on Saturday, he has established himself as first choice right back with a string of energetic and attacking performances.
"I take extra training during the summer months," he said. "I train with my father who is a fitness coach at Dalian Shide. I do extra sessions so I can maintain a high level of fitness."
The Chinese international signed from his home-town club towards the end of the 2001-02 season and was initially used further up field as a wing back in a 3-5-2.
"I enjoy playing at right back because I have played in this position for a long time and it allows me to use my fitness to good effect," he added.
"I try to get forward whenever it is feasible. I've scored two so far but in my position it's difficult to get goals.
"I just want to help the team to do well and my first priority is to defend. It would be great if I could score more goals, but as long as we are defending well, that's good enough for me."
