SHAUN TARGETS WORLD CUP AFTER DEBUT GOAL

David Beckham and Michael Owen had put England in control before Shaun's introduction for Nicky Butt in the 52nd minute.

The City winger took time to settle but within 20 minutes had embarked on a run from his own half, jinked wide of the full-back on the edge of the box and shot across goal into the far corner to wrap up a 3-0 win.

Wright-Phillips, who has thankfully just signed a new four-year deal with the Blues, has now set his sights on establishing himself in the national squad in time for Germany 2006.

He said: "My first aim was to get on the pitch and now it is to stay in the squad. Everything I've always wanted is to become a footballer and play for England and it was a dream come true to score on my debut.

"I felt calm out on the pitch and the credit for that goes to the players I have been training with for the last two days and those back at City. They give me the confidence to do what I do."

But Shaun is trying to stay calm, adding: "I suppose the World Cup in 2006 would be the long-term target but in this game you never know what is going to happen and you have to take one step at time and keep working hard."
