Sergio Aguero reveals the 5 toughest defenders he ever faced

Sergio Aguero has named the five toughest defenders he ever faced during his career for both club and country.

The Manchester City legend, who was forced into an early retirement by a heart condition just months after joining Barcelona last summer, is remembered as one of the game's finest-ever strikers and rarely struggled to come out on top against his defender.

In a Twitter Q&A, Aguero was asked which players gave him the toughest time on the pitch. He responded: "John Terry, Virgil van Dijk, Sergio Ramos, Carles Puyol and Rio Ferdinand."

Aguero went on to describe Terry as the toughest defender of his Premier League career. The Argentine, who famously nearly joined Chelsea before moving to City, always enjoyed his battles against the Blues, scoring more goals against them than any other opponent - 15 in 23 games.

Of those 15, just four came against a team with Terry in the line up, with half of those coming when Aguero was still on the books at Atletico Madrid in 2009.

While spilling the truths on his Premier League career, Aguero was asked for his opinion on the age-old debate: Gerrard, Lampard or Scholes - who was better?

His answer? Frank Lampard.

Aguero was nearly teammates with both Terry and Lampard as Chelsea were at the front of the queue to sign him in 2010, 12 months before he moved to City.

Chelsea lodged a £30m bid but Atletico wanted closer to £40m, and Blues owner Roman Abramovich refused to increase his offer, instead throwing £50m at Fernando Torres six months later.
