However, events over the weekend suggest the Brazilian superstar is actually considering a move to the City of Manchester Stadium this summer.
The Daily Mail reported on Saturday that City owner Thaksin Shinawatra had identified Ronaldinho as his top transfer target this summer.
It is understood that top agent Pini Zahavi has sold the idea to Thaksin of bringing in Ronaldinho to fill the stadium, boost morale heading into his second season at the helm and also boost his profile back in Thailand.
It was then confirmed that Ronaldinho's older brother and agent, Roberto de Assis, was entertained by Thai City directors at Saturday's 2-0 home defeat by Chelsea.
With Thaksin out of the country, board members Pairoj Piempongsant and Tawesuk Jack Srisumrid have been tasked with selling City to De Assis, with Zahavi also involved in the negotiations. They even had a meal in town after the game too!
De Assis arrived back in Barcelona on Monday and is thought to have outlined City's package to the Spanish giants.
Ronaldinho has struggled this season and is currently out with a thigh injury, and the 28-year-old has made it clear he's ready to leave Barca in the summer despite having a contract at the Nou Camp until 2010.
Whether City have the financial clout or the pulling power to lure Ronaldinho to Manchester remains to be seen, but these latest developments suggest his camp is interested and giving it some serious consideration - and that's something I thought would never happen!
Sven seems to have had little involvement in City's ambitious plans but admits he would be delighted if City can capture the 2004 and 2005 World Player of the Year.
"It was the first time I had heard such a thing, so I really hope it is true," he said.
"We would be able to find a place in our team for him, I can guarantee that."
