The City defender has made his first team debut this season, and has gone on to make 9 senior appearances (3 starts).
Yet despite calls for the 18-year-old to be given a prolonged spell in the team as City close out the season, he insists he is prepared to keep working hard and wait patiently for his chance.
"I don't think it's a case of sharpening my focus on the Premiership now as we are coming towards the end of it. I don't believe that is right. I have been focussing on it all season," he told the official City website.
"At the moment I would say that the players who are in the side are playing better than me.
"When the time is right and I am playing better than them then I believe I will deserve my chance, and in football you do get what you deserve."
As well as making his senior club debut, Onuoha has earned his first international cap, scoring five minutes into his debut for the England U20s against Russia on Feb 8.
"A lot has happened for me this season," he added. "I signed my first professional contract, made my Premiership debut and scored on my international debut.
"Now I just wonder what will happen next season for me - who knows."
