Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo has drawn a line under the Harry Kane transfer saga, calling it ‘finished’ and describing the forward’s announcement he is staying ‘fantastic news’.
A frustrated Kane informed Spurs at the end of last season that he wished to leave the club. Although PSG were briefly an option, Manchester City were most interested but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy flat out refused to sell, especially to a Premier League rival.
City were expected to make one last push to sign Kane in the final week of the transfer window. But, accepting that the move wasn’t going to be possible, the 28-year-old decided to call it sooner and opted to pledge his immediate future to Spurs.
Kane returned to training last week after an extended summer holiday and, despite the issue of his future only being resolved now, Nuno has been impressed with what he has seen in that time.
“It’s great news, fantastic news for everybody. Since Harry joined us, he’s been working so this is what we value. His attitude in training sessions has been great,” Nuno said, via the Evening Standard.
“It’s finished. Harry’s going to be with us. He worked today. He’s an option [to face Pacos]. Like I said, fantastic news for everybody. We are all very happy. He is one of the best players in the world, so we are all very happy, delighted to have one more option for the season ahead of us.”
Kane made his first appearance of the season off the bench against Wolves last weekend and referenced the reception of the travelling Spurs fans when he confirmed his intention to stay.
“It was incredible to see the reception from the Spurs fans on Sunday and to read some of the messages of support I've had in the last few weeks. I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100% focused on helping the team achieve success,” he said.
