The City defender feels his team-mates should take heart from their display against the champions last week - despite losing 1-0 - but must have belief in themselves if they are to earn their first back-to-back league wins on the road since August last year.
"We have to go to Southampton for a game we know we can win and one that we want to win badly," he told the official club website.
"We should be buoyed; we should be full of confidence. It was a decent performance against Arsenal but was obviously not quite good enough to beat them.
"We have got to produce the same attitude and that will give us a chance. We have the players here.
"If we go out and work hard, show the right attitude, determination and desire to win games we will give ourselves a chance."
