Manchester City's Ultimate 25-Man Premier League Squad

One of the greatest teams of the Premier League era, there's a reason Manchester City have won four titles and counting.

The legacy started by Roberto Mancini, succeeded by Manuel Pellegrini and brought to the next level thanks to Pep Guardiola, City have had some unbelievable players among their ranks over the last decade or so.

Looking back on their dominance over the years, 90min picks the ultimate 25-man squad from the Premier League era for Manchester City.

Goalkeepers

Joe Hart

Ederson - City's current number one would probably retain his place in this squad, given his incredible shot-stopping and ability as a ball-playing goalkeeper. Currently on 131 appearances for the club, with many more to come for the 26-year-old.

Joe Hart - Before there was Ederson, there was Hart. England's former number one deserves his spot in the squad for his long service for the Citizens having spent 12 years at the Etihad. He was also the goalkeeper in their first Premier League title in 2012.

Claudio Bravo - A solid third choice in Bravo, who has stepped up to the challenge when needed. A good squad always needs three good goalkeepers, and the Chilean definitely meets that criteria to complete the goalkeeping trio.

Centre Backs

Manchester City v Leicester City

Vincent Kompany – There’s only one man to captain this squad. Kompany wore the armband and lifted all four of City’s Premier League titles.

Richard Dunne – Dunne would be a worthy centre back partner for Kompany, with the fifth most league appearances in this squad. The Irishman played 253 times for the Citizens in the Premier League, only just behind his Belgian teammate.

Joleon Lescott – A key part to the club’s first two league titles. Lescott spent five fantastic years at the Etihad, before stints at West Brom, Aston Villa, AEK Athens and Sunderland.

John Stones – Stones had a significant role in City’s back to back titles, earning his place in the squad. His goal line clearance against Liverpool last season helped see out a 2-1 win, and eventually win the title as Guardiola’s side prevailed by a single point.

Right Backs

Pablo Zabaleta – One of City’s greatest ever players. A colossal 330 appearances for the Citizens, Zabaleta was a proud part of the 2012 and 2014 title winning sides.

Kyle Walker – Walker makes the squad for his speed alone, though his defensive abilities shouldn’t be underestimated. He succeeded Zabaleta’s position once the Argentine left, and they join together in this ultimate squad.

Left Backs

Aleksandar Kolarov – Another iconic City player from back in the day, now playing his trade at Roma. Kolarov was a fearless full back, bombing down the wing at any given opportunity.

Gaël Clichy – 203 appearances for the Citizens earns Clichy his spot in the squad. His six year stint in Manchester came to an end in 2017, when he left to go across Europe to Turkey to join Istanbul Basaksehir, where he remains today.

Central Midfielders

Yaya Touré – One of City’s greatest stars of the Premier League era, Yaya Touré was simply a machine. His strength, skill and power made him one of the best midfielders of his generation.

Fernandinho – Fernandinho has been fantastic for City, and is a favourite of Pep Guardiola's for his versatility.

Ilkay Gundogan – Gundogan made Manchester his new home when he left Borussia Dortmund in 2017, helping the Citizens to both recent titles. He’s played in blue 154 times, only slightly behind his Dortmund tally.

Gareth Barry – Every squad needs an experienced wily player, and City should look no further than Barry. He holds the distinction of the most appearances in the Premier League with 653 games; 175 of them coming at the Etihad.

Right Midfielders

Jesús Navas – Navas was a lightning bolt on the right hand side. The Spaniard slots comfortably into his squad, creating tough competition once again on the right wing.

Bernardo Silva – The Portuguese maestro faces a challenge to get into the starting XI, but he's undoubtedly a fantastic talent. 144 appearances, 33 assists and two Premier League titles in Manchester, and surely many more to come.

Left Midfielders

Raheem Sterling – Sterling is a surefire starter in this side, having been arguably the club's best player in the past few seasons.

Leroy Sané – It’s two current City men for the left wing, as Sané joins Sterling in the squad. The German has been unlucky with injury in recent times, but his impact hasn’t gone unnoticed with a wealth of goals and assists for the Citizens.

Attacking Midfielders

Kevin De Bruyne,David Silva - Spanish Soccer Midfielder - Born 1986

Kevin de Bruyne – One of the Premier League’s finest. With 17 league assists this season and 86 in his entire City career, De Bruyne is one of the best in the world.

David Silva – A magician on the ball and a joy to watch, he’s been involved in all four of City’s Premier League triumphs.

Samir Nasri – Nasri was some player back in the day, making 176 appearances in sky blue. He’s now at Belgian club Anderlecht, alongside his former captain Kompany.

Strikers

Sergio Aguero

Sergio Agüero – Agüero simply has to be in this squad. City’s all-time leading goalscorer with 180 league goals alone, the Argentine would lead any City lineup ever. Not to forget his crowning moment back in May 2012, scoring the goal that sealed their first title in 44 years.

Edin Džeko – Still tearing it up in Serie A with Roma, Džeko’s time in England was fruitful. 72 goals in 189 appearances writes the Bosnian talisman into City history, where he forms an explosive strike force alongside Agüero.

Carlos Tevez – The second greatest Argentine in Manchester City history. Tevez made the dreaded move across Manchester in 2009, adding a third league title to his trophy cabinet.
