Manchester City have won the race to land River Plate's brilliant young striker Julian Alvarez, 90min understands.
Sources in South America have confirmed to us that City have agreed terms for 21-year-old Alvarez in a deal worth around £20m.
It is understood that the deal will be finalised this month, but the Argentine international will remain at River until the end of City's season and join up with his new side in the summer.
Alvarez had a release clause of around £18m but it is believed that the two clubs have come to agreement over the transfer without needing it to be triggered.
The forward has been linked with moves to a number of European sides in recent weeks, including fierce rivals Manchester United as well as Serie A sides Juventus and Inter.
But it is City who have won the race for Alvarez, who has scored 22 goals in 45 games for River this season and will join up with the Argentina senior squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
