Manchester City have insisted that they are fully behind Phil Foden after a video emerged of the midfielder being involved in an altercation on Saturday night.
The clip in question has been shared numerous times on social media and it was apparently filmed backstage at Manchester's AO Arena, which was hosting the long-awaited Amir Khan - Kell Brook fight.
The footage shows a group of males shouting abuse at Foden, who retires to a sideroom to escape their attentions. However, this failed to deescalate the situation and after some angry exchanges between the two groups Foden's mother Claire was hit in the face by one of the men.
A scuffle then ensued with the Man City man briefly emerging from the room before the clip ends. According to the Telegraph, Manchester police are not investigating the incident but that has not stopped the club from issuing a statement.
"The club is aware of a video which has circulated on social media showing Phil Foden and his family being harassed and abused," it read.
"We are shocked and appalled about the nature of the abuse and ensuing assault on one of Phil’s family members. We will continue to give Phil and his family all the support and assistance they need."
The incident occurred after City slumped to a 3-2 home defeat against an out-of-form Tottenham side. Foden played the full 90 minutes but could not prevent his side losing.
