Manchester City have completed the signing of Australian forward Hayley Raso, further strengthening as they look to take the fight to reigning WSL champions Chelsea this season.
Raso announced her departure from Everton earlier this week to take on a ‘new challenge’ and has now been unveiled as a City player. She has signed a two-year contract at the Etihad Campus and will wear the club’s number two shirt.
The 26-year-old, who has previously won championship in both Australia and the United States, has played at two World Cups for her country and was part the Matildas squad that finished fourth the Olympics in Japan earlier this summer, knocking out Great Britain en-route.Raso is now City’s fourth new signing of the transfer window following teenage defender Ruby Mace, Jamaican striker Khadija Shaw and former Barcelona captain Vicky Losada through the door.
“It feels amazing – I’m just so excited to be here at this huge club,” she told ManCity.com.
“Having played in the WSL last season, I really liked the league – it’s very tough and competitive and being able to come to a team like City who are up there fighting for all the trophies and playing in the Champions League, it’s an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.
“Personally, I feel like I can fit in well with the team’s style of play – when I met with Gareth [Taylor], he spoke so highly of the club and squad as a whole, and I knew that it was definitely the place I wanted to be.”
Manger Gareth Taylor commented, “We’re delighted to add Hayley to our already talented squad here at City. She has proven her ability and versatility in the FAWSL over the last couple of seasons with Everton and also brings lots of international experience to the table."
