Wantaway striker Tevez has been linked with Inter since a move to Corinthians broke down earlier in the summer and all the talk so far has been of Cameroon forward Samuel Eto'o heading in the opposite direction.
But the Italians now reckon 30-year-old Brazil right-back Maicon for Argentina international Tevez is a fair trade.
Inter-esting: Maicon (left) and Samuel Eto'o have been linked with Manchester City
City will not entertain such a deal as they value Maicon at around ?15million and Tevez at ?50m. And City boss Roberto Mancini was impressed by Micah Richards at right full-back last season.
Mancini added ?38m man Sergio Aguero to his squad last week and he joins the likes of fellow Argentine Tevez, Edin Dzeko, Mario Balotelli, Craig Bellamy and Emmanuel Adebayor.
But speculation about Eto'o refuses to go away and the player has asked Milan to see if City are really interested after falling out with coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
Taking a break: Carlos Tevez won't be back in Manchester until Monday
The Inter boss has also signed another Brazilian right-back, Jonathan, from Santos and has told the club that now is the time to cash in on Maicon.
Mancini is an admirer of both Maicon and Eto'o from his time in charge at San Siro.
Tevez meanwhile is due back at the Etihad Stadium on Monday after taking a break following the Copa America in Argentina.
