It is a measure of the transformation City have undergone since Sheikh Mansour completed his multi-million pound Blues buy-out in 2008 that Kompany has been at Eastlands for a greater period than any other outfield player in the starting line-up that overcame Manchester United.
Yet, with under three years' service behind him, Kompany needed the experience of others to encapsulate exactly what City have achieved by ending their 30-year wait for a major final appearance.
"There are people who have been at the club for far longer than any of the players and you can see in their faces what this means," said the Belgium international.
"It is not about one individual. It is about this club and I can honestly say I felt proud to wear the Manchester City jersey and be part of the team that is going to bring those people back to Wembley for the final.
"It is a symbolic win because it has been a long time and, so obviously, it meant an incredible amount to them."
