Keegan targets top eight

Speaking in tomorrow's programme for the home game with Tottenham, Keegan accepts that he has made optimistic predictions for City before, but believes that if they can repeat their performance against Villa on a regular basis, then the Blues can make the top eight.

"The atmosphere against Aston Villa was terrific and don’t forget they came here in the top five in the Premiership," says the City boss.

"If you had come from another planet you would have thought we were in the top five.

"Take away the top clubs spending massive sums in the transfer market and paying big wages with huge resources behind them and we have all got a chance of getting into that sixth position; that includes Manchester City and I'm still looking there.

"The main thing I want is the players, through their performances, to make our fans believe it is possible too and not just Kevin Keegan being optimistic again.

"My job is to try and set realistic targets for this club and it is realistic for us to finish in the top eight this year - providing we play to our maximum and get the very best out of everyone and have that bit of luck."
