"Five wins in seven is great, but seven in seven would be better, but no team has found consistency - even the very top teams," he told Sky Premiership Plus.
"I`m pleased with the spirit here and I`ve got a little bit of money to spend in the transfer window (in January)
"Twice already this season (at Charlton and Middlesbrough) I said 'This is our chance to get in and look at the top [of the table] instead of looking behind you and we didn't do it.
"I said tonight that you don`t always get a third chance and so to make the most of it. We can now start looking at the Evertons and Spurs."
He added: "It was not as easy as it looked. We played very well here today. They're a side that competes but we had a bit of football in us and possibly we might have created a few more openings.
"I told my players 'Come and compete with them', because Sunderland had gone to Chelsea and done very well and went to Liverpool and showed they could defend.
"But I thought, if we could match their endeavour, I thought with our midfield we could create something and we did."
