City manager Mark Hughes believes Real Madrid’s £80m bid for Cristiano Ronaldo will be the start of a summer transfer spree.
“There is a lot of money out there now, it will be an interesting market,” says Hughes, who is also expected to splash the cash during the close season, with big names such as Carlos Tevez, Joleon Lescott and Samuel Eto’o on the list. “We are still looking to address areas of the team and squad, but have to make sure the quality is right,” adds Hughes
The City chief also backed United’s decision to accept Madrid’s offer, despite Sir Alex Ferguson stating that they would ‘not sell Madrid a virus’ in December. “Sir Alex has made what he thinks to be the right decision for United. I’m sure Real will be pleased with the business they have been able to do.”
The club attempted to sign Brazilian maestro Kaka in a well documented affair back in January and Hughes was philosophical about the way the deal was treated. “We pursued one of their players and the reaction that approach was viewed was somewhat different.”
