"We created a lot of chances tonight and at one point you think you're not going to get the one goal which would free us to play better," Hughes said after the match.
"We were a little bit off the pace in the first half but, in the end, we won it comfortably and it was a decent performance.
"We've got a group of players who understand the demands that are going to be placed on them now and in the future.
"We keep trying to tell people we are very early in our progression but some people don't want to hear that.
"Where we are at the moment is right on track.
"We're delighted to have progressed in the competition tonight.
"A lot of teams have gone out by all accounts so let's see how far we can go. Further progression in a top European competition can only be good for us."
