Dzeko is hoping to force his way back into the reckoning in Wednesday evening’s clash with CSKA Moscow in the Champions League.
A source close to the player said: “Edin is a popular guy at the club but almost all of his time at City has been plagued by uncertainty.
“It was a nightmare under Roberto Mancini but things were looking up when Manuel Pellegrini took over and started Edin in the first couple of games.
"But Negredo is on fire, he hit the ground running and now Jovetic is fit after a great performance against England
“During the dark days under Mancini, Dzeko confided that if he was to move on, he would prefer to either stay in this country or go to Germany.
“He is reluctant to leave in January but there is the issue of the World Cup next summer. It is a huge thing for Edin as he is carrying the hopes of a nation on his shoulders, so he is clearly torn as to what his next move should be.
“A lot will depend on how much game time he gets in the Christmas period and if goals are rewarded with a prolonged spell in the starting 11.”
