The 24-year-old was unveiled by the Blues yesterday after becoming the sixth-most expensive player to be bought by a Premier League outfit.
It completes a remarkable journey for the £27million man, who spent his youth in war-torn Sarajevo - a past he will never escape from, but one he wishes to ignore at present.
"I don't speak too much about the past - what happened happened," he said.
"After everything, I was stronger. But pressure is normal in football and mostly I want to speak about the future."
He added: "I decided to come here because I saw something else in Manchester City. It is a big club with big ambition and I am an ambitious player."
