As expected, Richard Dunne has completed his £6m transfer to Premiership rivals Aston Villa.
The Republic of Ireland defender, signed by Joe Royle from Everton for £3m, found himself surplus to requirements following the signings of Kolo Toure and Joleon Lescott and has ended his nine year association with the club.
Dunne enjoyed a colourful spell with the blues. In his first season the club was relegated back to the first division while in 2002 Dunne avoided being sacked but was fined £20,000 for arriving at training in a 'poor state.'
The Irishman forced his way back into the side after puting himself through an intense training program and became City's rock in defence. Stuart Pearce completed Dunne's comeback by naming him captain for the 2006/07 season.
Over the last few years, Dunne has been one of City's more reliable players, even with his tendancy to score the odd own goal each season. His presence in City's defence will be missed and we wish him the very best of luck at Villa.
