The Dutch midfielder arrived at Eastlands from Hamburg in January 2009 and he has since established himself as one of the most combative players in the Barclays Premier League.
Although his physical style has attracted unwanted attention at times - his tackle on Hatem Ben Arfa during the home win over Newcastle earlier this season drew the same sort of criticism that followed his X-rated World Cup final challenge on Xabi Alonso - it has not obscured the quality and dynamism that has helped push City towards a Champions League berth.
But, although he may be coveted across Europe, De Jong is happy where he is.
"I can't ever see myself leaving this club," the 26-year-old told the official Manchester City magazine, Manc. "City have done so much for me as a player and a person over the last two years. Now the plan is to be successful for a long time to come."
