The 31-year-old firebrand was said to have been set upon by a gang of five men during an attack in the early hours of Sunday morning, according to a report today.
The 'bruised' on-loan Manchester City star managed to escape from the violence, making a getaway in a taxi before the player's friends were involved in another fight moments later, leaving two men with facial injuries, one said to be a policeman's son.

'Craig was set upon,' a source from Championship club Cardiff told The Sun, who said Bellamy now expects to face questions from the police over the alleged incident.
'They surrounded him and were goading him. He did get hit and now has bruising on his forehead.
'His friends came out soon afterwards - he doesn't really know what happened then.
'There was no question of him being drunk. He had just a couple of beers.
'Police have not spoken to him - though he expects they will get in contact.'

It is believed that police have appealed for witnesses after one onlooker reportedly said the violence erupted after Bellamy was challenged to a sprint race and asked for an autograph outside the Eden Lounge club in his home city.
According to the nightspot's Facebook page, 'Eden Lounge is Cardiff's best kept secret that everyone who is anyone wants to be a member of.'
