Cox asked BBC Sport: "Who would have thought when we beat them 4-1 that the circumstances would be completely reversed?"
"They are looking towards qualifying for Europe while we're in a mini-league of six or so teams at the bottom and we need to finish at the top of that pack."
Cox, standing in for the recovering manager Kevin Keegan, said of the City boss: "He has been missed - his infectiousness and enthusiasm would be missed on any training ground in the world.
"We will discuss the circumstances which surrounded last week's game against Fulham, he will have seen the video and we will take it from there.
"Of course, he will have a major, major influence on who picks the team."
