"It was a very cruel result and it was like the game with Liverpool," said manager Kevin Keegan after the latest defeat at home to Chelsea.
"People will see that we have conceded three goals at home again and think that we have been battered, but that wasn't the case.
"For 70 minutes we were the better side and looked like going on to win it. When we fell behind, I think some of the players thought `Oh no, not again.'
"There is a lack of confidence. Having worked so hard for 70 minutes and not having a break, it was a bit cruel when we fell behind.
"You would like to see us scramble a goal from somewhere but Chelsea played very cleverly.
"Four or five of my players are struggling for form at the minute and when they are looking for help it's not there. But we will come back in on Monday and know the areas that we have to work on.
"Of the fit players I have got, the team that I put out was the strongest I could have done. For 70 minutes they did terrifically but the Premiership is a cruel place and you have to take your chances when you get them."
