Manchester City have made their first signing of the summer as 16 year old Nils Zander arives at Eastlands.
The left back is a German youth international but is yet to make an appearance for Bundesliga club Shalke and will Wayne Bridge's back up in defence.
Meanwhile Stephen Ireland has confirmed that talks of a contract extension are a long way off but hope it will be resolved quickly. Ireland's current contract runs until 2011and preliminary negotiations have begun.
Ireland has been thrust into the limelight this season with a series of impressive displays which earned him the City supporters Player of the Year award. Ireland says talks have barely started and at the moment it is in the clubs hands.
Ireland made his debut for the blues in September 2005 as a substitute against Bolton Wanderers and scored his first goal for the club in a 2-1 win at Sheffield United.
