Manchester City appear to have lost the race to sign Glen Johnson from Portsmouth as Liverpool look set to sign the defender.
Johnson's future has been under speculation with City and Chelsea all rumoured to be in the hunt for his signature but it appears Liverpool is his preferred choice of destination.
Elsewhere, City look to be closing in on the signing of Roque Santa Cruz from Blackburn after reportedly renewing their interest in the striker. However, should any potential deal fall through, Mark Hughes will turn his attention to Portsmouth's Peter Crouch. The England striker may not be the fans choice of striker, but he may be the answer to City's aerial problems up front.
The blues are also favourites to land Carlos Tevez despite a reported £25m bid for the Argentine, while rumours state City have mad an inquiry for Matthew Upson.
