The Belgium defender insists there is much to be positive about after the goalless draw against Manchester United at Eastlands. It was a dour derby and manager Roberto Mancini found himself fielding questions about negative tactics.
But Kompany was pleased with the way the team played and feels they can kick on in their forthcoming games against Birmingham, Fulham, Stoke, Bolton and West Ham.
City are four points clear of fifth-placed Newcastle and he said: "As a defender I would rather the game finished 0-0 than 4-4 or something. It may have been better for the fans but it is a good point. It puts us in a good place in the league. We are still very much in it and we will make sure we win against Birmingham. We have a great possibility in this game.
"We have picked ourselves up and are looking forward. There is a four-point gap between us and our competitors for the Champions League spot. It is interesting and things are going in a good way for us. We have played maybe the five best teams in the country in Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal, United and Chelsea and kept four clean sheets against them.
"Those teams usually score for fun but we have done well to contain them. It is a positive thing. Goals will come in our next games. It is a very long season. Winter is coming. The dangerous month of December is coming, so there will be a lot changes in months ahead."
