The Argentina striker, who is not in his country's squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers, returned to his homeland on an unsanctioned jolly while the majority of his club team-mates fled Manchester to join up with their respective international outfits.
City are livid with what they perceive to be another total disregard for club rules and plan to fine the rebel forward three weeks' wages, a total of ?600,000.
Carlito's way: Local media mob Tevez and Florencia at Buenos Aires airport
The Premier League leaders are steadfast in their belief that Tevez was told by two separate members ofstaff that he was to remain in Manchester over the international break.
The player himself believes no such warnings were given, and claims he tried on several occasions to contactboss Roberto Mancini, a fact the club dismiss as irrelevant.
A spokesman for Tevez said: 'He tried countless times to speak to Roberto Mancini. He was told it was Mancini's decision as to whether or not he could go and left numerous voice messages and texts. He didn't receive a response at all. He then flew to Argentina and tried to speak to Mancini again yesterday, leaving messages and texts. As of this moment we've had no response.'
Tevez will now be ordered to explain his actions at a disciplinary hearing early next week.
Away day: Tevez's training ground parking space remains empty
Even the players' union seemed to be running out of patience with Tevez.
Professional Footballers' Associationchief executive Gordon Taylor defended the player when City tried to fine him four weeks' wages for his behaviour in Bayern Munich recently, when manager Roberto Mancini alleged he refused to play.
But asked about this latest indiscretion, Taylor said: 'At times, people say it's my job to defend the indefensible. It's very difficult to now be in a situation where we put our heads on the block. I do feel very disappointed to say the least, coming so soon when I was hoping things could move on.
'I have to advise him his actions aren't doing him any good at all and he's leaving himself very vulnerable to action by the club. He's flagrantly breached instructions and that goes to the heart of the contract and could be gross misconductin anybody's language. I don't want to pre-determine but I'm very concerned.'
