The transfer saga had been thrown into disarray after Corinthians refuted claims from City that a deal had been agreed for the homesick Argentine striker's return to South America.
Eastlands exit: Tevez could be leaving City
But speaking after City had claimed 2-1 victory over Vancouver, Mancini remains confident a deal could be struck in the next few days.
'I slept last night and I had a game to prepare for today so I don't know any more,' he said.
'The clubs are talking. I haven't spoken to it. They only have one number and it does not work at the moment.'
Clearly though, Mancini is planning for life without his skipper though, having confirmed a bid is expected to be lodged for Atletico Madrid front-man Sergio Augero in the next couple of days.
'Maybe in the next days,' he said.
'I have not spoken to anyone about it, but probably. I think so.'
All smiles: Mancini remains confident a deal will go through
Midfielder Gareth Barry admitted there has been some dressing room discussion about Tevez, and that he does believe the South American has played his final game for City.
However, the England star was not prepared to downplay his input.
'There has obviously been the odd chat about Carlos,' revealed Barry.
'He has made it clear he is ready to leave and the players will respect his decision.
'It is down to the club to decide what fee they want for Carlos. "We would be sad to lose him because he is a class player who has worked really hard for the club.
'If you believe what you read, then yes, he has played his last game.
Crashing out: Tevez has been on duty with Argentina at the Copa America
'But he has been great for ManchesterCity. He has helped the club win its first trophy and he has always given 100%. We are grateful for that.'
And, such is the nature of City these days, the loss of one top player just heralds the arrival of another.
'Aguero is a very exciting player from what I have seen on TV,' said Barry.
'He is a class act. Names like that will excite fans and the players.'
In addition, even as Tevez is preparing for a new phase in his career, a new striker was emerging in John Guidetti, who equalised for City this evening before Shaun Wright-Phillips slammed home a late winner.
'John is young. He is a good player and I think he can have a good future at Manchester City.
'He is strong. He is a typical English striker, even though he is Swedish. He has a good technique. He wants to improve.
'He will have time here. It is important that he continues to work well and continues to improve.
'Today he scored a good goal but whenyou are a young player, you need to improve every day. This year is important. He has a chance.'
