We managed to do that against Aston Villa last Tuesday and were rewarded with a 2-1 win and a place in the last eight for the first time since 1993.
Now Pearce has called for more of the same as City aim to go one better - and the last time we made the semi-finals was back in 1981, when we went on to lose the final in a replay against Spurs.
"The backing of the fans at this club has always been crucial in my eyes, and that goes back to before I ever walked through the door here," Pearce told the City website.
"Their reputation for loyalty goes before them, and we are acutely aware that we need their backing. It gives us a massive lift, it is no surprise that our home form has been as good as it is when the supporters are as vocal as they are."
Over 5,000 Hammers fans are expected to make the trip to Sportcity and their team is renowned for playing open, attacking football, as they did on their last visit in October when City won 2-1.
Both managers also showed how important tonight's game is to them by resting a number of players at the weekend, so it promises to be another entertaining contest.
"I think it will be a good Cup-tie," added Pearce. "In general there has been a feel-good factor around each club this season, and both teams will want to keep that if they can.
"We want to play football as best we can but we know we have to scrap as well. Preparation is key, and we'll see who is fit."
