With his place under threat for club and country and a crucial Barclays Premier League clash at Old Trafford next week, Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart needed a clean sheet as badly as Carlos Tevez wanted his hat-trick.
City were eight points behind Manchester United before Saturday, but Tevez celebrated his 27th birthday by spearheading a 3-0 win over West Brom. And their neighbours' unbeaten run ended with a defeat at Wolves.
Three and easy: Tevez netted a hat-trick for City on his birthday
City coach David Platt said: 'What Robbie (Mancini) does is he wears you down and convinces you. He has this great belief that we can win every match.
'No one has said, "We can win the league if we win the next 13 games", but he believes this team can go out and win.
'It would be false hope to think we can go to United, beat them, and then the wheels are going to fall off. The hope is we amass enough points to take advantage of any slip-up.'
