City boss Kevin Keegan had few words of sympathy for the Algerian after admitting the referee had little choice but to produce the red card.
‘‘I have no complaints, the lad stopped Ali's run and Ali pulled his elbow up,'' Keegan said.
‘‘It is a classic sending-off now.
There is no point denying he deserved to go but we could have been two or three goals up by then.
‘‘The punters will be proud of the team for the way they stuck at it and dominated — I certainly am. Everyone of the lads did the work of two players.
Millwall must have felt like they were playing against 20 men at times.
‘‘It was an unbelievable performance and I am sure the supporters will talk about the last two home games for a long, long time to come.”
