With the World Cup looming less than 12 months away Barry is keen to be back playing regular football at the top level in order to give himself the best chance of making Roy Hodgson’s final squad for the tournament in Brazil.
Everton boss Roberto Martinez is keen on taking Barry to Goodison Park initially on a loan basis, with a view to a permanent move once the midfielder’s current contract expires next summer – though his current £90k per week earnings would likely prove a stumbling block, with either a pay cut or some sort of deal with City being required.
Barry made 365 appearances for former club Aston Villa, scoring 41 goals before making the £12m move to Man City. He has since made 132 appearances, netting six times, but his days at the club certainly now appear numbered.
