City fans have made their feelings about his remarks clear, and the French striker has now said 'sorry' to boss Kevin Keegan.
Chairman John Wardle, speaking after City's AGM at Sportcity, revealed that Anelka was contrite for what had been printed, while revealing he may be allowed to leave in January for the right offer.
"Nicolas has apologised for anything that might have been mistakenly taken out of context from the French press," Wardle told the M.E.N. "We are a big club and Nicolas has said he accepts that and said he is sorry to Kevin Keegan.
"There's been no bids for Nicolas Anelka," he added. "No-one has come to me and said I would like to buy him. If there was a bid and it was a bid of substance then between us we'd decide, but we still owe some money on Nicolas which we have to clear out, so it would have to be above that."
However, Wardle stressed that the club was not inviting approaches for Shaun Wright-Phillips.
"I've no intention of selling Shaun Wright-Phillips," he said. "If someone comes with a silly bid I'll have to discuss it, but we're not putting him on the shelf to sell. He is the heart and soul of this club and has his heart and sole in this club, and he would be very upset if I put him in the shop window."
Meanwhile, Wardle insists he is still happy to have Keegan in the City hotseat, despite seeing little reward for a significant outlay.
"Yes, he has had £50m to spend and like any other manager not all his signings have proved an unqualified success, but people have to remember where we have come from," he added.
"We have won the First Division championship and stayed in the Premiership for three successive seasons, which we have never done before. As far as Kevin Keegan is concerned he has done more than we expected in some respects.
"No what we want to do is move forward again and maybe the squad needs boosting. We will see what we can do in January. It would be dangerous to mark time and what we must not do is go backwards.
"My immediate aim is to stay in the Premiership and my vision is that we become an established club within it playing entertaining football for our fans."
