And Now To Punish van Persie

City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has been found guilty of violent conduct and has received an automatic three match suspension by the FA.

The striker appeared caught Arsenal striker Robin van Persie with his studs as he tried to regain his balance following the Dutchman’s rash and ill-timed tackle on the City man. Ade will now miss the derby at Old Trafford as well as the Carling Cup game against Fulham and the Premier League clash with West Ham.

Adebayor also has until the end of the month to answer a charge of improper conduct following his celebrations after his goal, which involved him running the length of the pitch and sliding on his knees to celebrate. Should the City man be found guilty of this charge, then the FA must surely act on van Persie who, immediately after equalising for Arsenal, ran towards the City fans and mouthed obscenities at them, some of whom were children.

The difference between the two though is the reaction of the supporters. While one set didn’t react and allowed the scorer to proceed with his rant, the other set acted in a disgraceful manner, threw objects onto the pitch and injured a City steward. Simply because the City fans didn’t react it means van Persie will probably escape any punishment.

However, it really does go to show who has the better class of supporter.
