Manchester City are hoping to complete the signing of Argentine striker Carlos Tevez on Tuesday, according to reports.
Despite the efforts of new Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelloti to hijack the deal, City look set to secure the signing of the striker in one of the summer’s most protracted transfers.
On loan to Man Utd until the end of June, Tevez seemed to have decided long ago that his future lay away from Old Trafford and City were competing against the Londoners and Liverpool for his signature.
However, the striker ruled out a switch to Anfield out of respect to United fans, leaving the field clear for City and Chelsea to go head to head for a major player for the second season running. City now look to have won the race, particularly since Tevez is rumoured to have enrolled his daughter in to a Cheshire school, indicating his intentions to stay in the North West.
After missing out on the signing of Barcelona’s Samuel Eto’o, City are desperate for another big name to join the other summer signing’s Gareth Barry and Roque Santa Cruz.
Once Tevez has signed on the dotted line, manager Mark Hughes can then turn his attention to the defence, with John Terry still high on the list, with Joleon Lescott still an option or Hughes to aim for.
If City can add the two defenders and Tevez to their ranks, it will no doubt show the rest of the Premiership that this season City mean business and they will be serious contenders for silverware.
