Manchester City have some obscenely good players at their disposal so you would think they would have no shortage of penalty taking options.
I mean, Sergio Aguero is the leading overseas goalscorer in Premier League history, Raheem Sterling has scored in a World Cup shootout and Gabriel Jesus is composure personified. In recent times, though, all of the aforementioned stars have missed from 12 yards for the Citizens.
When asked who was most reliable spot kick taker in the Citizens' squad, Pep Guardiola gave a rather surprising answer...
"Ederson is the best," Guardiola explained, as quoted by the Daily Mail. "Believe me, he's the best taker we have in penalties. Eddy has no blood in his veins, he's so calm so he could do it."
It may have been a tongue-in-cheek comment but Guardiola's claims got us reminiscing about some of the goalkeepers who have actually delivered from the penalty spot in the past.
Here's six of them...
Rogério Ceni
Let's start with the godfather of goalscoring goalkeepers, Rogerio Ceni. The legendary Brazilian stopper enjoyed a storied 23 year spell with Sao Paulo where he scored... wait for it... 131 goals.
Best known for his trademark curling free kicks, he was also pretty nifty for the 12 yards with one particular spot kick standing out.
With Sao Paulo locked in a tense penalty shootout in the 2013 Campeonato Paulista semi final against rivals Corinthians, Ceni strutted up to the ball and delivered a textbook panenka that made Cássio look a fool.
To add insult to injury, the then 40-year-old then smugly helped the stricken keeper back to his feet with a wry grin etched on his face.
A bonafide footballing legend.
Dimitar Ivankov
You've probably never heard of Dimitar Ivankov, which is a bit of an outrage if you ask us.
The Bulgarian stopper enjoyed a long career, spending nine years at Levski Sofia before taking in spells a couple of Turkish clubs. Not that memorable right?
Well, Ivankov also scored 42 goals, the vast majority of which came from the penalty spot. His preferred technique was smashing it into the top corner and he also occasionally wore tracksuit bottoms - so he definitely gets the 90min seal of approval.
Hans-Jörg Butt
Scoring two braces in a matter of months is fairly impressive no matter who you are, but achieving the feat as a goalkeeper is surely impossible? Think again...
Ladies and gentlemen, let us introduce Hans-Jörg Butt.
Butt had a knack for converting penalties throughout his career but the apex of his goal scoring habit came in 1999, when the German bagged two spot kick braces against Stuttgart within a matter of months.
Overall, the former Hamburg, Bayer Leverkusen, Benfica and Bayern Munich shot stopper managed 32 career goals.
One of these strikes did however end up counting for very little. In 2004, Schalke striker Mike Hanke took the opportunity to lob Butt from the halfway line when he was slow getting back to his goal after slotting a penalty away for Leverkusen. What a stinker...
Rene Higuita
Rene Higuita may be most famous for inventing the infamous 'scorpion kick', but did you know that the man they call El Loco used to have quite a knack for scoring as well.
He frequently pushed his way to the front of the free kick taking queue during his illustrious 24 year career and was also handy from 12 yards - scoring 41 goals overall.
One of his more memorable spot kicks came during the 1989 Copa America. El Loco stepped up to confidently slot home in a group stage game against Venezuela, celebrating in uncharacteristically subdued fashion.
Jose Luis Chilavert
Another goalkeeper/free kick specialist/penalty guru, Jose Luis Chilavert managed 46 goals during his club career and a further eight for Paraguay.
Chilavert's technique over a dead ball was a joy to behold but he also had a way with words, frequently providing us with some world class soundbites. We've been whittling down our favourites and have just about managed to narrow it down to a top three (all via FIFA.com)
"I never had any superstitions. They’re just excuses for the weak..."
"I don’t know what a Chilavert would be worth at today’s prices, but I'm sure it'd be a lot of money. There aren't many keepers who can go forward and score goals..."
And our personal favourite... Chilavert's views on journalists.
"They can say whatever they want. They’ve never won anything."
Victor Enyeama
Did you know that legendary Nigerian stopper Victor Enyeama possesses a talent for tucking away spot kicks?
During the 2009/2010 season alone he scored seven penalties while playing for Israeli side Hapoel Tel Aviv.
The feat was only two goals shy of top scorer Maor Melikson that campaign and he continued to convert from 12 yards in the years that followed.
