5 Things to Know About Peruvian Youngster Kluiverth Aguilar

The world of football might be in flux, but some things never change - even in the midst of a global pandemic which has brought football to a halt.

Manchester City signing teenagers we've never heard of even in our wildest Football Manager saves, probably with a view to selling them on in five years time? That's one of those things.

Yep, Peruvian club Alianza Lima confirmed over the weekend that defender Kluiverth Aguilar is to join City for a deal widely reported to be worth £1.5m, and here's everything you need to know about him.

Dani Alves 2.0

Kluiverth has previously told Peruvian media that he models his game on legendary Barcelona and Brazil right-back Dani Alves, which tells you all you need to know about his style of play.

He's widely described as having blistering pace, and though he's only made a handful of senior appearances (he's still a child, give him a break) he's shown an aptitude at filling in both in his natural position and further up the park.

He Won't Join Until 2021

Those pesky South American transfer restrictions strike again. According to a statement on the Alianza Lima website, Lima won't join City until after his 18th birthday. Given that he doesn't even turn 17 until next month, it will be over a year until he's first seen hoisting a blue and white scarf above his head.

"Until his incorporation to Manchester City, Kluiverth will continue playing in Alianza Lima with the aim of continuing to mature in his football," the Alianza statement reads.

"Aguilar will turn 18 on 5 May 2021, the date on which he will be ready to definitively enroll in the celestial and white institution."

He's Set for a Loan or Two

It's difficult to imagine City are too bothered about that first bit, however. Evidently, they want him to mature a good deal before even considering him for a place in the first-team squad, so much so that they are already planning another loan spell after he officially joins.

The Manchester Evening News report that, as soon as he arrives at the Etihad, he is to be sent straight back out to another club under the City football group umbrella to take the next step in his development.

Given he currently plays in Peru, Uruguayan club Montevideo City Torque - owned and branded by City since 2017 - would make the most logistical sense. City basically own half of football, though, so there is no shortage of other options; New York City, Melbourne City and Spanish side Girona chief among them.

He's in Good Company...Kind of

Alianza describe the deal as 'the most important transfer from Peruvian football to Europe in recent years' but there's not too much to go on in the way of precedent. Werder Bremen striker Claudio Pizarro and Lokomotiv Moscow winger Jefferson Farfan - both of whom were also brought to Europe from Alianza - are the two most high-profile.

Peruvians in the Premier League? Well, if Kluiverth makes the grade, he'll become the sixth; after Andre Carillo, one-time Burnley keeper Diego Penny, cult hero Nobby Solano, Coventry's Ysrael Zuniga, and indeed Pizarro (remember that loan spell with Chelsea? Me either).

Not exactly inspiring stuff; City will be hoping their new man (boy) can set the bar.

Ahead of His Years

Many players can see their 20th birthday come and go before making a lasting senior breakthrough, but that's not Kluiverth's style. His first-team debut in November 2019 came within six months of his 16th birthday; a stage of development at which most are still toiling in the Under-18s at club level.

On the international stage, he's already a regular in the Peru Under-23 squad, and has made three appearances under Nobby Solano himself (yeah, that's what he's up to now.)

We wouldn't say he's on track to win Ballon d'Or by his 20th birthday, but if he keeps punching above his weight like this, then there's every chance.
