Sven Goran-Eriksson has just named his provisional 23-man squad and has picked in-form Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon ahead of Wright-Phillips - and Shauny isn't even among the five standbys.
David James is the only City player in the squad, named as 1 of the 3 keepers alongside Paul Robinson and Norwich's Robert Green.
When asked at the press conference why he had left Shaun out, Sven said he had picked England's best players at the moment.
That was proof that Shaun's lack of first-team opportunities at Chelsea - and therefore lack of opportunity to build confidence and form - have cost him his World Cup place.
The stats speak for themselves. Shaun has made 27 league appearances for Chelsea this season but 17 of them have been as a sub and he hasn't even managed a goal.
He was an automatic choice at City and scored 10 goals in 34 league games in his last season with us. Had he chosen to stay at City this season then there's no reason he wouldn't have at least equalled that record and a World Cup call-up would have been a certainty.
But he chose to leave and now he has to live that decision.
I only hope he gets the chance to rediscover his form at club level - maybe even at City - and earn himself a call-up for the 2010 World Cup instead.
