In a press conference in Madrid yesterday, the former United midfielder not only agreed that Shaun deserved a chance in the national side, but admitted that he was happy to move to the centre of midfield to accommodate the City winger.
That move was mooted right here in this very column in October, so perhaps Beckham has been reading.
More likely is the fact that Beckham is just accepted the inevitable. He knows his place at right-midfield is under threat, but having spoken out yesterday, it will not be such a sensation when the skipper is displaced.
Beckham even went as far as offering Sven a solution to the situation - rather than dropping his skipper completely, he can play him in the middle instead, so everyone one's happy!
"It is great Shaun is playing the football he is. He is one of the best young talents in Europe and deserves his chance," said the England skipper.
"The manager picks the team and if he wants to put me in the middle, or if I stay on the right, or if Shaun plays somewhere else that’s fine.
"As England captain I’m pleased to see players like him and their great talent. It’s great that we have great young players coming through."
